Learning and Development
To support and enable our workforce to deliver services and achieve our ambition of making Kingston Stronger Together, we offer our workforce a comprehensive learning and development programme.

A learning organisation
At Kingston we encourage our workforce to continuously learn and develop. We are committed to helping you grow your skills, knowledge and expertise so that you can achieve your full potential, and support us in achieving our vision to ensure that our borough is:
- Greener: We are a greener and more sustainable borough and on track to meet our net zero carbon targets.
- Fairer: Our children and young people have a fairer start in life and residents are supported when needed throughout their lifetime. Inequality has been reduced and every resident has increased opportunities for a happy and healthy life.
- Safer: Our borough stays safe, well maintained and resilient so individuals and communities can thrive and prosper.
- Together: We have strong relationships with partners and work together with our communities to achieve our shared ambitions.

Your development
Your development is important on many different levels – to the organisation, to the team you work in, to your customers – and to you personally – to enable you to succeed at Kingston and beyond.
Our learning programme
Our learning programme is designed to support you in realising the benefits and embracing the opportunities of new ways of working, and enable you to:

- Embed hybrid working
- Support your wellbeing
- Make the most of technology to support digital ways of learning
- Work collaboratively
- Ensure fair access to training
- Understand and embed diversity and inclusion working practices

Professional qualifications
Our workforce benefits from the opportunity to undertake professional qualifications appropriate to their job role, up to degree and masters level. This is offered through on the job training and professional training delivered by accredited training providers. We offer this to staff by utilising the apprenticeship levy to fund the training courses and are proud to have offered apprenticeships to over 60 members of staff since 2020.
Coaching and mentoring
Our coaching and mentoring schemes are available to all staff and they're something we're particularly proud of here in Kingston. These conversations create learning, self-development and improved performance in a way that benefits both you and the organisation. We also offer reverse mentoring to benefit our managers and senior leaders where both the mentor and mentee are provided with an opportunity to learn from each other. It builds relationships and supports both parties to understand the different experiences of others.
